A Book Doctor's Approach to Editing - where we cover main problems in the big categories (dialogue, plot, character development, etc.) that editors like me see often and how to fix them.
In this workshop, you'll learn the key ingredients to keeping your reader on the edge of their seats and staying up way past their bedtime because they can’t put your book down. We’ll talk about how to keep interest high and plots rolling using lies, secrets, defiance, and revenge. You'll learn when to let weapons fire (or not), avert danger (or not), and re/gain power/knowledge/clues (or not). Best of all, you'll learn to think like an editor and know what to delete. Specifically, we'll cover the importance of using:
  • Introductions of Characters - the five musts
  • Choosing the correct Point of View
  • Layering Action - Show, not Tell
  • Pacing, Narrative Breaks & Energy Bursts
  • Conflict vs Contrast vs Complications
  • Language Choices, Active Verbs & Loaded Words
  • Devices
  • Dialogue
  • Characters that Readers will Never Forget - Character Driven Storytelling
  • Blurring lines between Bad Guys & Good Guys
Additionally, Christine Fairchild will present sessions, participate on panels, and hold a kaffeeklatsch during the CAC25 (Friday and Saturday , April 4th and 5th). Topics will include Creating Characters that Readers will Never or Forget, Profiling Character Modes, Secrets to Creating Tension on Every Page, and panels/kaffeeklatsches.

Can you tell how excited we are to have Christine Fairchild at CAC25? She is back by popular demand!
